I (20M) got a girl (21F) pregnant. PF, please punch me in the face with reality(r/personalfinance)
First, refuse to sign the birth certificate at the hospital. Nurses and administrators will bark, jump through hoops, and raise hell making you feel like you need to sign it. You don’t. Second, demand a paternity test. It doesn’t need to be a court ordered one, it can be an over the counter test or even one sold off of Amazon. They aren’t admissible in court, but if that test shows you’re not the father, you should demand a legally binding paternity test.

False. You need to support a child that is actually yours. You don’t need to throw your professional life away because she wants to live in the middle of nowhere.
>If I were to get a PhD shoveling 20k/year her way for many years is worth the opportunity.
You’re going to be blind sided by what child support is actually going to ding ou for.
