And they wonder why Aussies pirate games!(r/gaming)
If you are trying to justify your piracy, you are doing a piss poor job. While it is usually pretty easy to explain why it sucks to be a gamer in Australia you just half-assed it.
- Steam – good place to start…but not there
- Origin – limited selection, but still growing…not there, but that isn’t surprising
- Gamefly – the Netflix of gaming…okay, well, only available in North America, which is understandable since it isn’t an intercontinental company and they probably don’t have the legal agreements setup to do business in Australia.
- Pirate Bay – wait? that was all you looked at?
No Aussie gaming stores? They have it at EB games. They have it at GameTraders. They have it available at a bunch of other stores in Australia that I am not even familiar with because I am just some jackass in America that spent 30 seconds on Google. Shit, they even have it for DL on Amazon (not all DLs work ‘down under’, but you didn’t even try a proxy).
You say you are willing to give them your money, but you didn’t try very hard, so it just ends up looking like you are lazy and wanted it for free. The Aussie gaming situation isn’t going to change when people just keep ‘stealing’ games, there is no benefit to try and expand that market if they don’t see the need. A lot of digital purchases aren’t available in Australia because the companies don’t see the market, especially not one big enough to try and get past all the bullshit the government makes them go through.
Did you send an email to Disney Interactive? To Steam? To Origin? Did you even inquire as to why it isn’t more easily available before slapping that post together?
