TIL Jimi Hendrix was once invited to play with Cream alongside Eric Clapton. In the middle of the show, Clapton walked off stage. He was found in the back shaking angrily and smoking a cigarette. When asked what was wrong, he simply replied, “You never told me he was that fucking good.”(r/todayilearned)
If you listen to the lyrics on the whole Electric Ladyland album (and Axis as well for that matter), this song fits very well stylistically to the point where it may as well have been one of his own (although to be fair he was always heavily influenced by Dylan).
The irony is that Hendrix was HORRIFIED about releasing the song, believing that he could never do justice to Dylan. It was largely due to his girlfriend’s furious insistence that he relented and allowed it to be released.
She then proceeded to embarrass the shit out of him by constantly playing the record whenever they had company over at their London flat.
