Xbox One now supports OTA TV tuner in North America(r/xboxone)
The video in the link gives a detailed explanation of everything but it seems some people aren’t clicking through or maybe can’t see it (at work, etc). I’m getting some of the same questions in my inbox.
For those asking what you need to buy:
- The compatible TV tuner is this one made by Hauppauge. They will be releasing an Xbox One-branded version of the tuner soon.
- An HD TV antenna. I use this one, but your mileage may vary. I live in a heavily populated urban area and get a perfectly clear signal. If you live in a more rural area you might need a more powerful antenna. There are other factors that will affect your signal as well.
For those asking what the difference is between this and plugging the antenna directly to your TV, or using a HomeWorx box: this tuner integrates your over-the-air television signal with the Xbox One interface. For example, OneGuide works with this tuner just like it would with a cable box, you can stream TV to SmartGlass, etc. It appears HomeWorx has some OneGuide integration but does not allow streaming to SmartGlass. HomeWorx has DVR and this tuner does not. This tuner is much smaller than the HomeWorx box as well.
Hopefully that clears things up for those who can’t or won’t click through to the link and watch the video.
edit: fixed duplicate link. clarified difference between this and HomeWorx.
