Buy a Raspberry Pi starter kit and learn to program in Python. It is a very powerful language, but also relatively forgiving to beginners. And the Raspberry Pi gives you an easy-to-use software/hardware interface. Start off with a simple “hello world” program and go from there.
Make a portable internet radio. Make a Reddit bot (actually pretty easy with Python – I’ve done it), Make a little RC car with a squirt gun attached. Make an automated nerf-gun launcher. The possibilities are endless.
